Fifty members of the Sabbatoparea with relatives and friends gathered at Athan's in Brighton Jan. 28, 2012, to celebrate the group's Vasilopita and the New Year. The mood was festive and the camaraderie evident among the sympareotes. Lia won the coin and Thanasis, Thaleia, Yannis, Eleni and Takis impressed with their dancing skills. The music and the singers were superb and guided the crowd through a trip down the musical lane of modern Greek laika and rebetica. If folks were not dancing they were singing along.
The food and the service were generously donated by sympareotis Aris, who went beyond the call of duty, as he had prepared, among others keftedakia, Brie loaf, cheese croquettes, kokinisto with rice, salad and for dessert ekmek, Boston Cream Pie and, of course, the Vasilopita.
The parea thanks Aris and the Rebetoparea for making our evening truly special.
