Second, we saw after a long absence, Dimitris, Giorgos and Alekos, all of whom were in great form. In fact, Dimitris treated the parea because of his upcoming name day. Of course, his gesture might have been partially due to the threat that several folks had made that we would buy an ad in the Greek radio to denounce Dimitris's absence as a ploy for him to avoid treating the group. Hearing that no one had objected to the advertising plan, Dimitris did say that he may have to reconsider belonging to a such a merciless group. Clearly, when to comes to treating, Sabbatoparea takes no prisoners.
An interesting exchange took place between the young woman who has joined us the last few Saturdays and a veteran parea member. She asked, if it would be appropriate for her to keep showing up, if she were to be the only female in the group. The sympareotis, who should remain nameless for reasons that would soon become obvious, said, "Of course, you should keep coming--just don't tell our wives, because then they'd want to come...." Enough said.
Then Manolis made a huge mistake by announcing to the group that yesterday was "Kosmas and Damian" day, thus Kosmas's name day. When Kosmas said he knew of no such name day on Oct. 17, we checked the eortologio and indeed, he was correct: yesterday was "Kosmas and Damian of Arabia" day. Apologies to all affected.
Finally, to respond to all those whο emailed and called to find out if Sabbatoparea was going to be represented in the "Head of the Charles Regatta" the last couple of days. Upon examination of our equipment, and our condition we decided against the idea for the following reasons: 1. we could not find a large enough scull to accommodate any 8 of us as oarsmen (our weight alone would put us in a category by ourselves and that wouldn't be fair to others); 2. someone still has not returned one of the oars from last year's competition and we simply did not feel like going around in circles; 3. our coxswain contracted swine flu the last minute. and 4. we could not agree on the name of our scull--should it have been ΣΦΥΡΙΖΑ, Ντόρα or Παναψώμ ?

I would like to offer some commentary to the recital of facts by fellow symbareoti, Manoli. I indeed was subjected to an overwhelming consensus that made it very clear that prolonged absences from the savatoparea would have dire consequences to my membership standing. I attempted to find the few, if any, votes that were in opposition to the proposed punishment, which I found to be cruel and unusual and in violation of my constitutional rights as ratified by the savaroparea in our First General Assembly of September 11, 2002. Needless to say, I found no such support and I have to admit that the group is merciless. I would like to remind the group my continuous support and contribution over the years, which has consisted of engaging the group in remarkable music adventures of such great artists, Bougas etc. Had it not been for my arduous efforts, the group would have missed the significance of such an artist (and many others), failed to plan the trip to his concert, never known the song to "nini travaei karavia" and on and on and on. I request that I am declared to be a platinum member of the group, with all the privileges and rights bestowed upon such a member classification. Dimitri
