Twenty three sympareotes, their spouses and friends braved the first blizzard of 2016 and celebrated the annual Vasilopita cutting yesterday at Athan's in Brighton. This year's "flouri" winner was Maggie. A very good omen for her and Nikos.
Aristeidis had prepared an outstanding “hoirino
krasato” (pork in wine sauce) and, for non-meat eaters, “bakaliaro skordalia”
(cod with garlic sauce). He topped it all off with the parea's favorite “ekmek.”
The dancing was led by Thanasis, Thaleia, Yannis, and Vassilis although
Aristeidis, Makis, Helen, Christos, Eleftheria and Panayotis did their part.
This year’s festivities were accompanied by live
music provided by REVMA, an excellent team of local musicians (and a great
klarino player), which attracted a large group of its own fans. There was not
one empty seat in the house. The prevalent dancing talent and enthusiasm resulted
in unprecedented cheer.
The parea thanks Aristeidis for his cooking and for donating the
food and drink, Vaios for collecting the donations and Makis, one of the SP founding
fathers, for cutting the Vasilopita.
